My new messenger bag
I bought this as a replacement to my aging messenger bag. As a fan of DBZ and seeing that this can be used as a messenger bag I thought "score!" I just received it today (11/29) and like it, for the most part. There's just one thing I really don't like about it...
First, the pros...
The orange part of the bag is actually more dull than what the stock picture on the site shows, which I like. The color is not a bright orange. To compare, I took a picture of a clementine orange and put it on the bag. I like how subtle the design is. It doesn't scream DBZ, so only fans would know its a DBZ bag.
The construction of the bag, overall, is very good. The bag feels very durable. The black parts of the bag feel like a thick rubber. Metal buckles are used on the side/bottom, which gives it a nice shiny finish. The stitching for the straps that attach to the top of the backpack is done well. I don't feel like these would rip easily. Though, on the same backpack straps, plastic clips are used to attach to metal d-rings at the bottom. The plastic feels cheap, so I would avoid carrying anything really heavy or unnecessary tugging. If you're traveling with the bag, I would probably use it solely as a duffel so the plastic clips aren't exposed. It would've been nice if the same metal was used like on the buckles mentioned earlier. Also, no complaints with the zippers used.
The straps used in duffel and pack pack mode have their own pockets for hiding. The pockets are still big enough to insert other items you want to carry. The pocket for the backpack straps could probably hold a small laptop or tablet.
There are 4 actual pockets/compartments. 1 main compartment that houses smaller pockets (mentioned in cons); a compartment that looks like it can hold a normal sized laptop; a compartment, a tad smaller, that can be also accessed via the main compartment; and then a small pocket that can hold a handful of pencils/pens. I feel that there is an adequate number of pockets/compartments.
Now, my one big con...
As I mentioned earlier, I bought this because I was going to use it primarily in messenger bag mode. My main complaint is with the main compartment of the bag. This compartment houses 9 pockets and 4 pen/pencil pockets. Unfortunately, the pockets are constructed for backpack mode (upright). So, when using this in messenger bag mode the pockets are now sideways...which makes holding items in them very difficult. Except for maybe if you had pens that had clips, those would be OK. So now you have pockets that don't hold anything and everything is loose. I wish that the pockets had buttons, velcro...something that would hold whatever you put in there. Or maybe even pockets that faced vertical while in messenger bag mode.
Overall, I do like this bag. I'll get over my biggest gripe by just storing larger items in the main compartment only. The design is subtle and not in your face; its constructed well; and I like the use of the metal buckles.
